Summer is definitely prime time for visiting and this summer is no exception!
This week we enjoyed a visit from my little sister, her husband and their boys! It was non-stop and with sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 90s the weather was crazy hot! There were photoshoots in the studio, trips to the pool, a visit to my aunt's farm with a dip in the pond, and visit to the inner harbor before heading out to my older sister, who lives on a lake, where they are staying for a few more days and to take in the 4th festivities!
I think they had lots of fun and I'm looking forward to documenting their adventures with all the photos I took!
It's been out of the box and on my wrist for ONE month now.
My mom and my daughter now have them too.
I guess it's what I needed.
I've been working out with a trainer for over 18 months now. Long time, right? You'd think I'd have made great strides. But no. I have built muscle. And if I fall I can get up without my knees feeling like they are going to give way. And I can get crawl under the bed to retrieve whatever Dixie has taken into her cave without feeling terrible pain in my knees. But I have not lost more than a couple of pounds in all that time and I need to lose more than a few ;)
So Hello FitBit! I had gotten some store emails about it. Looked it up and decided to give it a go. The very first day I didn't change anything and wanted to see what a typical all-work day was for me activity-wise. Well, it wasn't good. I took less than 3,000 steps and hadn't drank any water that entire day and I think that was my wake-up call. I spend far too much time working/sitting at my desk. I need to work and have a heavy load to support the family but I also need to take care of myself.
My husband has lost over 120lbs over the past few years and that's been quite the motivator too. Definitely want to be the smaller of the two of us and that's not as easy anymore! ;)
So I'm walking alot! And I'm logging my food and water and I am so much more aware. I think that's a big part of it. We all know we are supposed to exercise, drink 8 glasses of water and eat a well-balance diet, right?! Well, the osmosis didn't kick in, just becauise I know it doesn't mean it's happening.
I'm happy to report that ONE month in I'm down 7-1/2lbs.
It's a start. Long road ahead but I'm up for the challenge.
I thought to myself that it really couldn't make a difference when painting on my iPad. Finger Painting has worked pretty well so far. And I have a Nomad paintbrush stylus and it seemed like more of a novelty when I used it.
But, I can officially say I've been converted.
I definitely felt more control over the paint tools when working with the stylus. Afterall, my fingers aren't as long and lean as the stylus ;) And Repix just makes it so dang easy. I love painting apps like this that are so intuitive to use. I admit I get frustrated if I can't just sit down and figure it out. I'm not a manual-reading girl. Never have been. It's easy to figure out this app when you open it up. But, have to say, this video I mentioned in my last post enlightened me. The idea to erase away and paint it back... that connected with me and I'm hooked!
So, I'm in love with RePix using the Sensu Stylus. Now I just want more, more, more paint options for Repix... and the ability to add type... and instagram my images... not sure if that's already in there or not!
But, for now, I'm thrilled to paint and bring into photoshop to scrap!
We had just had lunch with my sister and a couple of her girls at the American Girl Store in downtown Chicago [we later celebrated a few birthdays there]. Then we all boarded a horse drawn carriage for a ride down Michigan Avenue.
Kelly and her cousin Claudia were loving every minute!
I went to high school there and still have family there. Not as easy to get to since we've left the midwest but my sister's little guys keep me coming back! They are growing up so fast that I'm sure soon they won't be as keen on the camera as they are now.
I got to visit with one of my favorite friends from high school. It had been years since we'd seen each other but we picked up as if we'd never been apart. Headed to the Omaha Zoo in the bitter cold taking in all the indoor exhibits there. Even got a night out with margaritas with my sister before wrapping it up with another dear friend in the area.
A classic family picture of me [in the middle] with my siblings and mom in 1972.
I don't have shoeboxes full of photos of all of the adventures of my childhood so the pictures that I do have are treasured. And this one is definitely a classic! I remember how much I loved that coat and I'm guessing this was an Easter Sunday picture before heading off to church when we were living on No. 55th Street in Omaha, Nebraska.
